The following are words given by participants at the streamed meeting. 1 Corinthians 14:29 says that "Two or three prophets should speak, and the others weigh carefully what is said." 1 Thess 5:19-21 tells us not to despise prophecies, but to test everything and retain what is good.
At beginning of meeting Scripture Reading from 1 Corinthians 12 - "Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, love is not pompous, it is not inflated, it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick tempered, it does not brood over injury, it does not rejoice over wrongdoings but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."
Scripture Reading Psalm 80:1-7 - "Give ear, O shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock! You who are enthroned upon the cherubim, shine forth before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh. Stir up your might, and come to save us! Restore us, O God; let your face shine, that we may be saved. O Lord God of hosts, how long will you be angry with your people's prayers? You have fed them with the bread of tears, and given them tears to drink in full measure. You make us the scorn of our neighbors; our enemies laugh among themselves. Restore us, O God of hosts; let your face shine, that we may be saved."
Scripture Reading John 14:1-6 - "Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to myself, that where I am, there you may be also. And you know the way where I am going." Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going, how do we know the way?" Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through me."
Prophetic Word - The Lord said we, his people, have many, many things in our heart that we bring to the Lord. But, we also have a lot of unforgiveness in our heart, and the Lord is saying the unforgiveness is creating a wall between us and him, and that we need to worship before we go to him. We are to worship, we are to ask him who do we need to forgive, and then the Lord will show us. Once we have forgiven, once we have worshipped, the wall will come down and the Lord will hear us.
Prophecy - "My little ones, my people, I'm coming soon and I am calling you to purity. I am trying to purge out of you everything that is not of me. I want to prepare you for my coming and I need you to prepare others to come to me as well. My little ones, go out, preach the Gospel, talk about me and my love for each one of them. Encourage them to repent, to let go of their unforgiveness, to let go of all those things of the world, for soon they will have no worth. I am the Lord of lords, the God of gods. I am the King of kings. I am coming to rule over my people. I need you to prepare the way. I need you to be prepared yourself. Soon, my little ones, soon I am coming. Be ready. Let go of everything. Cling to me alone. I love you with a never-ending love. You were chosen before time. You were chosen for this time. Answer my plea. Let me purify you. Let me bring out all those things that are standing in the way. Come, my little ones, come to me."
Prophetic Word - The Lord was also telling me that the Lord could hear the hearts of all of us and we were searching, "Who do we need to forgive?" And the Lord said, "It could be someone that you would never think of, a doctor that misdiagnosed, a real estate agent that didn't do the best, a teacher who mocked you, it could be people that we've completely forgotten about." And the Lord said that in the next few days he will reveal all that we need to forgive and to not fuss about it, not fret about it. The Lord is healing all of us.
Scripture Reading Mark 9:37 - "Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me."
Vision - I saw the sky open and a hole was in the sky and angels and saints kept pouring out.
Jeff Cavins spoke on "Learning to Hear God's Voice Through Scripture on a Daily Basis". We can sit down with Jesus every single day and he can speak to us, he can lead us, guide us, comfort us, correct us, encourage us, nurture us every single day. God wants to speak to each one of us.
Jeff said that he always walks through open doors, looks around to see what the Lord wants to do, and amazing things happen. They typically happen because of something that happened between him and the Lord in prayer and opening up the bible and listening to his voice. An example was his story of the lady with car trouble.
Principle #1 - Nothing becomes dynamic unless it becomes specific. We will never live a dynamic life as a believer in Jesus until we become specific, become serious about this relationship, have an intimate relationship with him. Be specific: Meet with the Lord every day, what time, where, do what.
Principle #2 - Too many priorities. Have one priority. I want to do your will. What is your will? When we have God's priority in our life, everything else falls into place.
We have to believe that we can speak to God and that God can speak to us. A desire to know the Father's story is the first thing. I want to know you.
Paragraph 236 of the Catechism says that there are two priorities: 1 ) Understand the theology - the theology is to know the Trinity, know the heart of our Father. 2) understand the economy of God - our Father's plan for our life.
The first thing to do is to get a bible that we can live in. One that we can underline or highlight verses that speak to us specifically, a date that that came alive. In the back perhaps write a list of promises. We can get a "life" verse, a verse for the year we're in (what does God want us to focus on this year, go deep in?), etc. Jeff has a bible with all his insights, etc., for each of his daughters, and which he will bequeath to them. He wants them to have a copy of where his father has been, wrestling with God, praying. He's started doing this also for his grandchildren.
Get a notebook - an "insight journal" to write down the gold we're receiving from God. Jeff has a journal for each of their grandchildren, and as they are growing up he is writing down things that he wants them to know, truths from the Word of God. When they turn 18, he'll tell them, "Grandpa has been thinking of you all these years. This is from my heart for you. This is truth. This is wisdom."
He suggested that we begin with the Gospel of the day. Lectio Divina - Divine Reading. When we open up the Scriptures, we will encounter Jesus. The Church teaches that we have the same worship and the same relationship with the Eucharist as the Word of God. The Mass is divided up between the two. When we open up the bible, we are reading the Word of God. Vatican II said, "When you open up the bible, your heavenly Father is coming to meet you and speak to a daughter, to a son."
1) Read the Gospel for the day and read it out loud carefully. We're looking for words or a phrase that pops up off the page. "That's for me." Write down the date, the Scripture, and after reading it, write what is speaking to our heart. After reading it through, slowly, a couple of times, listening, we have an idea of, "I think God is speaking to me here. Don't know why yet." Then we go to step #2.
2) Meditation - We enter into the text. In our mind we enter in with Jesus. We see ourselves with the Lord. This is a living relationship. Jesus is alive and we're walking with him.
3) Prayer - This is when we begin to pray, "Why does that text seem so important to me today. What are you trying to say?" Listen.
4) Contemplation - A place we arrive at and we just enjoy the presence of the Lord. He has just spoken to us. Jeff encouraged us to do this in the morning and then we can keep it in our heart all day.
Over time we will know the Lord's voice more and more. Then, we need to step out on it, to act on it.
