The following are words given by participants at the streamed meeting. 1 Corinthians 14:29 says that "Two or three prophets should speak, and the others weigh carefully what is said." 1 Thess 5:19-21 tells us not to despise prophecies, but to test everything and retain what is good.
At beginning of meeting Scripture Reading Psalm 62 - "Only in God is my soul at rest; from him comes my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation, my stronghold; I shall not be disturbed at all. Only in God be at rest, my soul, for from him comes my hope. He only is my rock and my salvation, my stronghold; I shall not be disturbed."
Word Gift after Praise & Worship: Scripture Reading Psalm 62:6-9 - "My soul, be at rest in God alone, from whom comes my hope. God alone is my rock and my salvation, my secure height; I shall not fall. My safety and glory are with God, my strong rock and refuge. Trust God at all times, my people! Pour out your hearts to God our refuge!"
Scripture Reading Wisdom 6:17-20 - "The beginning of wisdom is the most sincere desire for instruction, and concern for instruction is love of her, and love of her is the keeping of her laws, and giving heed to her laws is assurance of immortality, and immortality brings one near to God; so the desire for wisdom leads to a kingdom."
Scripture Reading Psalm 63:1-4 - "O God, you are my God; I seek you earnestly; my soul thirsts for you, my flesh yearns for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water. Thus I have seen you in the sanctuary, to see your power and your glory. Because your lovingkindness is better than life, my lips will praise you. So I will bless you as long as I live; I will lift up my hands in your name."
Scripture Reading Galatians 5:16-18 - "So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature; they are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law."
Remaining teachable may be one of the most difficult things we can do. The bible speaks of having a teachable heart that is open to God's wisdom.
Scripture Reading Psalm 46:4-7 - "There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy dwelling places of the Most High. God is in the midst of her, she will not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns. The nations made an uproar, the kingdoms tottered; he raised his voice, the earth melted. the Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our stronghold."
Prophetic Word - I kept hearing the word to praise him, praise him all day long. Just continue praising him. But with that I got: "Keep using your heavenly language." We're at a time, we need to use our heavenly language when we're praising him. When we're praying for others, just keep using our heavenly language.
Scripture Reading Psalm 16:3 - "How wonderfully he has made me cherish the holy ones who are in his land."
Arthur Brooks spoke on how the world around us can bring us closer to God and to bring others to God. How can we use discord, hate, etc., as an opportunity for us to get closer to God and to bring others?
St. Thomas Aquinas: "Love is to will the good of other as other." It's an act. It's a discipline. Matt 22:37 - "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. Love your neighbor as yourself." Matt 5:44 - "You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven." This is an act of will, not an act of feeling. How do you do it?
Contempt is the conviction of the utter worthlessness of another person. It's like physical abuse when we get it from someone and we want to retaliate with same (roll our eyes). We have to break the habit of contempt. We need to reprogram ourselves. When we feel like doing this, we need to STOP. We put some other response instead. Don't roll eyes, answer with love. This will change the situation.
1. Go looking for contempt. This is your opportunity to live the Gospel, to bring love. You're entering into missionary territory. 2. Show more gratitude. Sincere gratitude is an expression of love. Gratitude changes you. Gratitude changes the situation. You have an opportunity to persuade.
Proverbs 15:1 - A mild answer turns away wrath, but a sharp word stirs up anger.
