The following are words given by participants at the streamed meeting. 1 Corinthians 14:29 says that "Two or three prophets should speak, and the others weigh carefully what is said." 1 Thess 5:19-21 tells us not to despise prophecies, but to test everything and retain what is good.
At beginning of meeting Scripture Readings Isaiah 63:7-11 - "The favors of the Lord I will recall, the glorious deeds of the Lord, because of all he has done for us, for he is good to the house of Israel. He has favoured us according to his mercy and his great kindness. He said, "They are indeed my people, children who are not disloyal." So he became their savior in their every affliction. It was not a messenger or angel but he, himself, who saved them. Because of his love and pity he redeemed them himself, lifting them and carrying them all the days of old."
Prophecy - "Set your heart on the gifts especially the gift of prophecy."
Scripture Reading Psalm 139:1-4 - "O Lord, you have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you understand my thoughts from afar. You scrutinize my path and my lying down, and are intimately acquainted with all my ways. Even before there is a word on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it all."
Prophecy - "Praise me at all times, not just in the sunshine but in the darkness. Praise me all the time. Even when you don't feel like praising me, praise me."
Confirmation/Scripture Reading James 1 - "Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet various trials, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And that steadfastness has its full effect that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing."
Prophecy - "Come, come, I love you so dearly. You are all in my heart. I see you always, the pearl of great price. Come, I love you dearly."
Prophecy - "My child, you do not go unheard. Continue to praise me and to pray for those you feel do not deserve. It is not up to you to decide who deserves. Pray for everyone. Pray for them like you pray for others."
Fr. Mathias Thelen spoke on Consuming Fire - the love of God. It's so powerful what God is able to do in the grace of the Holy Spirit. This love that he has for us is so consuming him that he is willing to die so that we might come back to him. We, as Christians, need to constantly keep that before our eyes. We need to see with faith what God is doing in the church.
Story of Fr. Mathias praying for someone and it's like a brick wall. God wants us to be powerlessness so that he can be power in us. He wants us to embrace our weakness so that he can be our strength. The more that we try to do it ourselves, the less power we see in our life.
Fr. Mathias thought that he should probably pray, "Lord, what are you doing right now?" He heard a voice say, "Tell him that Andrew is going to be fine." He could choose the nothing happening option or he could choose God actually maybe speaking to this person. After a struggle with this word, Fr. Mathias shared it and it was exactly what the man needed to hear. Andrew was his son who was in the hospital and he came to this service to pray that he was going to be O.K.
The consuming love of God knows everything about us. He wants to come to us in the midst of our suffering. He wants to minister to us and he wants to do that through us. That's our identity and our mission.
Matt 21:12 - "Jesus entered the temple of God and drove out all who sold and bought in the temple and He overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. He said to them, "It is written, 'My house shall be called a house of prayer,' but you make it a den of robbers.'" And the blind and the lame came to Him in the temple, and He healed them. But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying out in the temple, "Hosanna to the Son of David!" they were indignant and said to Him, "Do you hear what these are saying?" And Jesus said to them, "Yes. Have you never read, 'Out of the mouths of babies and infants you have perfect praise?" And leaving them, He went out of the city to Bethany and lodged there."
Everything that Jesus does is done out of love. He was driving out people from the place of prayer, the place of encounter with God. They were selling the items for sacrifice. But they turned what was used for worship for a place of self gain. Jesus out of a holy anger drives them out because the temple was meant to be a place of prayer. He was driving out from the place where God wants to dwell all those who did not have any interest in God himself.
Fr. Mathias believes that this is what is happening now in the church. He in his consuming fire is purifying the body of Christ because He loves us. He wants to burn up anything that would come between us. When we give Him our sin, He purifies us and makes us new. He makes us His temples, places where He dwells and where we can encounter Him. The more He purifies the church, that's us, the more the purity and the power of the gospel can flow through us.
Matt 9 - "When He saw the crowds He had compassion for them because they were harassed and helpless like sheep without a shepherd." "The harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few. Pray therefore to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest." Jesus invites us into this ministry of mercy and compassion and healing. The world needs the heart of Jesus; his love and his healing.
